The first night of the two-day festival will feature Berklee professor Beth Bahia Cohen, master of regional bowed instruments, Carpe Diem String Quartet, one of America's premiere "indie" string quartets, and Hoppa Project musicians. The program will highlight the one-thousand-year connection between Turkish music and the music of the surrounding cultures from Eastern Europe to the Middle East.

 

 

TRANSFORMATIONS OF TURKISH MUSIC

The second night of the festival will feature some of the most important Turkish composers of the 20th and 21st Centuries, as well as Turkish folk and traditional music. The program will be centered around legendary Turkish composer and educator Ilhan Baran who passed away in 2016. The concert will include Baran’s Transformations for Piano Trio, folk and traditional music that inspired him, and works by the next generations of composers who were influenced by him. The program will include works by Kamran İnce, Fazıl Say, Önder Özkoç, Yiğit Kolat and Erberk Eryılmaz, and will be performed by Berklee professor Beth Bahia Cohen, master of regional bowed instruments, Carpe Diem String Quartet and Hoppa Project.
